Nisargadatta Gita - Message of Nisargadatta Maharaj
with commentary by 'Pradeep Apte'
You are even before even you could say the words ‘I am’, witnessing happens to the state prior to your saying the words ‘I am’.
The source, substratum or backround has to be there before anything can appear on it, you say ‘I am’ but ‘you’ are before that, only then you could say so. That state which is prior to your ‘being’, the formless state, witnessing happens to that state through the ‘I am’ which has appeared on it. That unborn state is ever present, it is neither the ‘I am’ nor does it require the ‘I am’, it is beyond needs or any sort of dependence.
